The Insect Specimen Exhibition Room " Insighect" Renovation Project

Abstract

The Insect Specimen Exhibition Room at the Department of Entomology, National Chung Hsing University, has been a cornerstone of environmental education since its establishment in 1995, building a rich history of thirty years. It serves not only as a hub for academic research but also as a bridge for the public to engage with natural science, attracting over a thousand visitors annually. Our services cater to a wide audience, from toddlers to the elderly, and we have hosted scholars and government officials from sister schools in Japan, the Rural Development Administration in Korea, and other international visitors. As an appointment-only exhibition space, we are committed to providing every visitor with a professional tour guide to ensure a high-quality and in-depth experience.
This renovation project, titled "Insighect," is centered on the theme of "color." The name "Insighect" is a creative play on words. It encompasses a dual meaning, representing both "what insects see" and "insects being seen" by leveraging the ancient meaning of the Chinese character "見" (jiàn), which can also mean "to appear" (現, xiàn). Through this, we hope to guide visitors to move beyond a human-centric perspective, to see insects with an insect's eyes, gain new insights, and ultimately rediscover our vibrant world. This project is more than just an exhibition renovation; it is a profound experience that encourages cross-species empathy and a shift in perspective.

Methodology and Implementation Steps

確保展覽能滿足從學齡前兒童到研究學者等多元客群的需求，我們以「顏色」為核心，設計了一條由淺入深、視覺與知識並重的參觀動線 。

1. 打破既定視角：展覽從一個「顯而易見」的顏色主題切入，透過色盲可見的彩蛋設計在內的一連串辯證，讓一般色覺者意識到「你看見的並不理所當然」 。挑戰參觀者對視覺的固有認知，為後續的視角轉換奠定基礎。
2. 進入昆蟲世界：我們將展示昆蟲如何感知世界，從花朵在昆蟲眼中的紫外線圖案，到天空在牠們眼中的偏振光，再到蜘蛛網的特殊反光，這些畫面與人類所見有著天壤之別 。透過具體的視覺呈現，讓參觀者直觀地感受到不同物種的視覺差異。
3. 色彩的奧秘：展覽將深入淺出地介紹昆蟲體色的來源，如物理結構呈色與化學色素呈色 。這些看似微小的細節，實則是昆蟲生存、求偶、與天敵對抗的關鍵。我們將透過豐富的實例，讓「大家看到的都不一樣」的觀念，轉化為對生物多樣性的深刻理解 。

Innovation and Cross-Disciplinary Collaboration

「蟲見」從色盲體驗出發，逐步引導觀眾認識不同昆蟲的視覺世界，並深入淺出地介紹昆蟲體色的來源，展現豐富的生物多樣性。透過探索昆蟲的物理呈色與化學呈色機制，本展不僅揭示了昆蟲行為與生存策略的奧秘，更引導觀眾思考日常生活中可能存在的其他視角與可能性。讓觀眾親身體驗昆蟲及其天敵如何看世界與彼此，從昆蟲視角重新認識世界的多樣性。讓觀眾理解生物多樣性的同時，對世界產生更加寬廣的理解。

Expected Results and Contributions

昆蟲標本展示室於1995年開展起，就有對外的導覽解說之服務，已有30年歷史，平均每年約1,011人參與。參訪客群更包含日本姊妹校、日本農推中心、韓國農村振興廳、東南亞交換生、印尼學者，亦有經濟部水利署水利規劃分署與台灣電力公司之參訪。年齡層包括一歲半幼兒至八十歲長者。翻新後估計將有更多民眾參與，以昆蟲顏色延伸至多樣性、色盲與視角不同等議題，讓不同年齡層之觀眾皆能從展場中得到自己的體悟。
